The Novel of the film

The novel 'Vogel kan niet vliegen' (The bird can't fly) is inspired on the film but goes back in time and tells the history of the characters. Threes Anna describes on a very visual way the isolated desert community and creates a perceptible tension between a little boy that mourns over his mother and a grandmother who tries to redeem her mistakes.
The novel is currently only available in Dutch.
